Hey everyone! We’ve had a great first few days on our tour. On Wednesday morning we got together and packed everything into Amber’s Honda Accord – instruments, equipment, clothes, snacks – you name it! We got it all in headed off on the first leg of our journey.
Ten hours later, we arrived in Saskatoon, and stayed with some new friends. They all come from different countries, so we ate Romanian stew, enjoyed Russian cookie pie, and devoured Irish porridge for breakfast (Australia and Korea were also represented). Turns out these guys really like salsa dancing, so we went out on the town with them, and found a great spot to dance. We even had a jam session with our host, the Irishman.
Thursday morning, we rose bright and early and headed off to Edmonton. It was another long drive, and when we finally arrived in Alberta, we gave the appropriate greeting (see video here). We had a few hours to kill in Edmonton, so we went over to the local Long & McQuade music store. While we were there, a HUGE hail storm started battering Edmonton. It was the worst hailstorm we’d ever seen.
Thursday evening we played at The Artery, which is a little like the Winnipeg Folk Exchange or the Cyrk. A very fun band, Aroot’s Bazaar, opened up for us, and we were happy to note than Edmontonians jumped up to dance right away. We had a great time playing this little venue, and were even greeting by a family that Amber knows from Winnipeg, who came out to see us while on holiday.
